The bacterium is spread through vaginal fluids or semen. It can be spread because people do not use safety in doing intercourse. A person can be infected when their partner has been infected first. Then, they who do oral sex have the risk to be infected. Besides that, sharing sex toys is not safe and can be the cause. The bacterium can be infected when people use finger to touch the private organs because it can be passed from hand to hand. Physical contact also can stimulate the infection. The mother, who is pregnant, can transmit the bacterium to the baby.

For the women, the untreated infection can give pelvic pain for a long term. Then, it can cause sterility and infertility. It happens because the eggs from the ovaries are blocked in the tubes.
